Instructions:

1. Cook the sausage:

• In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned. Drain off excess grease. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

2. Sauté the onion and garlic:

• Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened (about 5 minutes).

3. Make the sauce:

• Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Cook the pasta:

• Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

5. Assemble the ziti:

• In a large bowl, mix the cooked pasta, sausage, and sauce together.

6. Bake the ziti:

• Transfer the pasta mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

7. Serve:

• Serve the baked ziti immediately and enjoy!
