For the Meatballs:
- 1 lb Ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
- 1/2 cup Uncooked long-grain rice
- 1 small Onion, finely chopped
- 1 Egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup Milk or water
- 1/4 cup Breadcrumbs (optional, for binding)
- 1-2 cloves Garlic, minced (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon Olive oil
- 1 small Onion, chopped
- 2-3 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can Crushed tomatoes or tomato puree
- 1 (15 ounce) can Tomato sauce
- 1 cup Broth (beef or chicken) or water
- 1 teaspoon Dried oregano or Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon Sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
